Baggage Scanners and Walk thru Metal Detectors

With the increase in terrorist activities in recent times there has been an increase in the levels of airport and maritime security. Countries across the world are increasing their border security.

With Port and Harbour security the monitoring of a border can be more difficult with a larger area needing to be secured.

The most effective monitoring of people and cargo coming through ports and harbours are baggage scanners and walk through metal detectors.

X-ray baggage scanners offer an excellent solution for the fast and comprehensive baggage inspection for both airports and ports and harbours with the ability to pick up the presence of weapons within the baggage being scanned. Most x-ray scanners come with additional enhancements to attain maximum performance:

Operator Assist
Operator Assist (OA) assists the operator by highlighting suspect objects usually of Z-number (dual-energy system) or particular density without impeding the belt. Operator Assist is usually used for automatic detection of narcotic, contrabands, and explosives.

TIP
Threat Image Projection (TIP) is used to examine the performance of x-ray operator’s performance level through distinct projection of threat images into bags that are being scanned which in turn detects the response of the operator to such threats. The operator response and the threat projections are recorded in a database.

There are various types of baggage scanners available in the market today suitable for big and small airports with corresponding advanced features depending on your budget and needs.

For years now, baggage scanners have been a staple in every airport around the world because of the benefits airport security teams get out of it. They help ease the job of ensuring the safety of all passengers and the country itself. It aids in the detection of object hidden to the human eye.

Walk Through Metal Detectors
Walk thru metal detectors can also help in ports and airports scanning people as they come through. A walk thru metal detector can be set to different security levels and the development of the technology used has lead to more advanced walk thru metal detectors using multi-zone scanning, which are split into a number of horizontal zones enabling the height of a carried weapon to be displayed. This multi-zone scanning reduces the need for full body searches.

With security being paramount in the minds of government more and more government buildings and banks as well as shops, schools and offices to ensure that despite a concentration of people entering the building the threat of attack is reduced.

Printer screen says black ink cartridge missing when it is not?

I installed a new (new refurbished) black ink cartridge into my printer (I did remove the tape first) & it says “black ink cartridge missing”. I tried to reboot the printer-took out both cartridges, turned it off & unplugged it for 5 min…wiped the cartridge bottoms & the cartridge seat inside the printer (wasn’t sure if I should touch the gold strips inside the printer or not) where the cartridges sit, with a Q-tip…then plugged the printer back into the wall, reinstalled both ink cartridges, pressed the buttons on the face of the printer according to the prompts-& it still says “black ink cartridge missing”. It is detecting the color cartridge ok though. My printer is a Lexmark X4270 All-in-One. I called the Lexmark company & they will not help me b/c I did not buy the cartridges from them. I called the place were I bought the cartridges (overstock.com) & they will not help me b/c it is over the 30 days return period.
Also, what is the best way to clean the ink cartridges? With a damp paper towel? Q-tips & alcohol? Do I clean the contacts (are the contacts the gold strip on the cartridges…the place it says not to touch?). Do I just clean the bottom of the cartridge, or where the strip goes up the back of it too? How about the gold metal strips inside the printer that makes contact w/ the cartridge?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hey Merlins,
Thanks for this info (which I just read per your link)! Since this is a UK site, does it also apply in the states (I live in North Carolina)? If so, I think I can get my money back. It says “• If a consumer chooses to request a repair or replacement, then for the first six months after purchase it will be for the retailer to prove the goods did conform to contract (e.g. were not inherently faulty)”.

Answer
The 30 day return period is just their rule. The LAW says that if a product is not “fit for purpose” then they have to refund or replace the item. If you contact trading standards they will look into it for you and I’m sure the company will sort it out once they hear that the law is on their ass lol. Good luck with it! Also, get a new supplier, it sounds like you are not getting the service which a lot of other companies provide and which you are entitled to.
